++++++++++ Fneb Notes ++++++++++ In the current time, there's a new bishop or priest in the region that hates the druids in the forest. In the past this priest was an acolyte to a powerful priest that led purges of other druid groves. One of those old purges led to the witch becoming a witch, after her grove was destroyed. She takes an oath from a demon cabal to become a witch. These demons never wanted to leave the earth, maybe. Side note: I need to somehow figure out who this demon cabal is, and what are their goals. Before the Old Ones were here ============================= There was the earth; the green goddess, the sun in the sky, all the forests, and us mortals, and the animals, and the plants. Us people now remember this era fondly, although, we joke that before the Old Ones, we fought with each other savagely over pride and other stuff that seems irrelevant in the new world. In this cosmology, the sun is like the grandfather, (the father of the earth) and the earth under our feet is our mother, and the sun is our mother's father. Comets sometimes strike the earth, or streak near by. There are legends that us people, the humans (maybe), came from fruit in the forest maybe, and there's other legends that after a meteor shower, we hatched from meteor fragments on the earth. Or maybe the meteors made a big crater and then the forest healed over it, and then eventually, we came out of that. Some comets / meteors bring good stuff, other times bad. The old ones came in on a really bad meteor storm, and life got worse. The moon is the sibling to the earth. All the planets are brothers and sisters of the sun. Or is the sun another mother? Answer: its complex and all the planets and solar bodies have both male and female aspects and incarnations. For example, on a hot summer day, we think of the oppressive sun as cruel but during winter, when the sun warms us, we might talk about the sun like a loving mother taking care of us. Sun is the parent of all the planets. Gender for space stuff is not Male-female, but mostly based around who you orbit and who orbits you. it's all about the paths and the interactions in space, and each relationship, the relative masss of each. Some meteors are from the sun in our solar system, and some are clearly not made of anything from our sun. Interstellar objects do show up from time to time. The cosmology says that travelers sometimes bring joy and new life and other times bring horror. The old ones are the worst horror. The planets that have life have been seeded with dust (containing spores, bacteria, viruses, other weird stuff) floating through space. Us mortals are descended (probably) from viruses that piggybacked on space dust that made it to the surface inside a meteor. The universe is a pendulum swinging between chaos and peace. The Old Ones ============ They appeared here after a meteor storm. The earth was pocked with scars, and the weather changed and didn't return to the old patterns. Everything got worse. It was obvious that the meteors hurt the earth. Animals and plants and mortals suffered, but began to work on healing the wounds. The sky filled with dust. Inside the craters, some evil vapor emerged. Some legends say that the old ones are infected mortals and animals. Others say they are the children of the meteors smacking into the earth. Angels and Demons (aka The Young Ones) ====================================== Soon after the old ones appeared, it became clear this planet was not easy for them to live on. Lightning hurts them. They are strong and gigantic, but slow, and grow tired. So, somehow, they created servants. Made them smaller, weaker, but able to live in this planet's atmosphere. Those angels and demons bossed around us mortals to dig the minerals that the old ones crave, from deep in the mines. The young ones maybe are the unwanted children that mix the old ones with us. The war ======= So in the time before the old ones, we mortals thrived and grew fat and then eventually became so greedy we became sorcerors in our quest for power and wealth and domination over each other. We were unwilling to share with each other, even when there was more than enough. So, some believe we called the old ones down to us because of our evil natures. And when they arrived, at first, it was just an ecological collapse. But then their minion young ones emerged, and then slowly forced mortals into slavery. Our sorcerors were powerful! The young ones however corrupted some of us and we turned against our own kind. Soon we were all either enslaved or living in the wilderness where the young ones seemed to ignore us. This was the worst time. We were defeated because we turned on each other and gave away the secrets of our powers to the young ones. We learned about the nature of the old ones once we were subjugated. Our sorcerors interested them and they created a hierarchy for us. Essentially, we enslaved ourselves. Then one day, we realized we were doing all the work of enslaving ourselves. We all stopped participating in it, and suddenly we all realized we were free. Seeing us act in unison stirred some of the young ones to join us, because we were clearly the more righteous cause, and we were doing something really selfless. The the young ones protecting the old ones fell, and it was now the mortals and remaining young ones vs the old ones, and then the young ones sacrificed themselves to disember and trap the old ones within the earth. The turning point between the old ones ruling and us rising up ============================================================== This is a moment when we decided that we would die for each other rather than live by coercing each other. Maybe there was another celestial event. Maybe we learned from another celestial visitor how this was going to end -- eventually our planet would be a lifeless frozen rock, or a planet studded with volcanos spewing lava and filling the sky with poison black dust. Our future was doom! But that didn't give us hope. What gave us hope was... something I can't figure out right now. Maybe from within? From a mistake by the old ones? A gift from the sun, or maybe an earthquake gift from the earth mother? Like, a solar flare hits the earth and stuns the old ones? Maybe that happens during a battle, once the revolt has begun, and is in danger of being crushed. Then somehow I need to get to the point where the old ones are defeated. I have an image in my head of a gigantic eye buried deep in the earth. Maybe after their defeat, the young ones have enough time to dismember them and bury them, and then the old ones become crystals that use energy they refract from the sun to shine on the old ones buried deep. The energy is so powerful that the spiris inside the dismembered components of the old ones are forced into a state of near suspended animation. Or, in other words, the old ones are from another dimension. They transmit themselves and control matter in this zone, but when the young ones use sunlight, focused through crystals, somehow the light prevents the old ones from being connected in this world. They lose the connection to this plane of existence. The old ones were enslaving the mortals to build machines that worked as portals or gateways to other dimensions so the old ones could summon their masters. Maybe the mortals got a visit from a comet that came from another world, and saw what the old ones did there. Still though, the mortals need a unifying hope. Maybe the sun gives them that, and the earth gives them an earthquake (and that's how the old ones are trapped below!). Like the old ones grew out of craters. The earthquakes formed around those craters, and opened up even deeper chasms, and consumed those craters. Anyhow, the young ones maybe died out soon after we trapped the old ones. Maybe without the old ones here, the young ones withered up, because their strength came from the old ones (and this was a method of how the old ones kept them in control). .. vim: set syntax=rst:
