+++++++++ D&D Ideas +++++++++ .. contents:: The book I'm reading, Sly Fourish's guide to DMing, or something like that, suggests that each session should have: * 3 combat scenes * 1 role-playing scene * 1 skills test scene Role-playing scenes =================== The leprous beggar ------------------ When the players camp for the night, a leprous beggar asks them for pity (and food and booze). If the players treat the leper nicely, he'll reveal himself to be an astral projection of an entity from far away. The entity is looking for adventurers that are pure of heart. A great evil force is coming soon and the entity needs to train his army to oppose it. Maybe the beggar gives them some magic weapons, or some blessings, or some good-luck charms. Maybe use some of the items in the `Loot ideas` section. If the players just tell the beggar to get lost, the beggar gives them a grave warning about how one day soon, they'll need to pick a side in the war of good and evil. If the players abuse the beggar, then he also reveals himself to be an astral projection, but this time he curses one of the players. The curse will disfigure the player somehow. On the plus side, the cursed character will get some attribute bonuses as a result of the curse. Like maybe +2 strength, or maybe a better AC because of a rocky shell, or whatever. On the minus side, the character will gradually transform into a complete monster, violent and insane, unless he somehow redeems himself. Weird dream ----------- When the characters camp out for a night somewhere else, they all have a shared dream where a ghost appears and asks for help being rescued. Loot ideas ========== Really awesome magic user spell book ------------------------------------ The book has some spells from different levels. Any magic user can cast spells from the book <= his level, without using up his "spells for the day" limit. Writing new spells into the book requires a bunch of really fancy and expensive ingredients to make new ink. Prayer robe ----------- If a cleric prays while wearing this robe, everybody nearby gets healing and gets various buffers. Can be used all the time without penalties. Helpful canary -------------- This is a canary in a little cage. The canary can talk and will whisper hints to the party. .. vim: set filetype=rst :
